This delightful and secluded Victorian country house has comfortable and spacious en suite accommodation and its own beautiful garden with spectacular views of the River Tweed. It’s a busy Christian family home and we offer an old-fashioned welcome and something different from the usual B&B, with our well-used furniture, quirky paintings and odd belongings, accompanied by chatter at the breakfast table. The house is only 100 yards from the main line railway station and has ample off-street parking. Castle Vale House is the perfect place to start your holiday and discover Berwick and its surroundings by foot, cycle, car or public transport.

Berwick-upon-Tweed is steeped in history; the Constable Tower, which is a remnant of Berwick’s thirteenth century castle, stands in our grounds. The house sits looking over the river bank right next to Stephenson’s famous Royal Border Bridge with its monumental 28 arches. Guests like to enjoy a lazy cup of tea in their room while watching the river, or the trains crossing the bridge.

Berwick-upon-Tweed town centre is only 10 minutes’ walk from the house, or a 15 minute stroll using the scenic riverside path. This takes you through the wooded Castle Vale Gardens and down eighty steps to the river. There are numerous lovely walks only moments away by the sea, golf course or around the town walls. You can take a bus to discover the coast of North Northumberland or the Scottish Borders, or take the train to arrive in Edinburgh or Newcastle within the hour. Bring your bikes and follow one of the cycling routes to and from Berwick (routes 1 and

68).
