When visiting Berwick-upon-Tweed with children and looking for things for families to do in Berwick, we have plenty of suggestions for you.

Berwick has a choice of beaches in walking distance of the town, with Berwick Beach and the Greenses Harbour on the north side of the Tweed. Just to the south of the River, you will find a truly family-friendly beach at Spittal. With a play park for sliding and climbing, a proper sandy beach for building sandcastles and collecting shells, and (on Summer days) a splash-park for the kids to get thoroughly soaked in, this is the perfect day at the seaside.

Pot a doodle do is an interactive craft centre, designed to appeal to all ages and abilities, where you can paint your own pottery, enjoy mosaic making or other craft activities. Pot-a-doodle-do is south of Berwick, close to Cocklawburn beach, and also has a restaurant, outdoor play area and accommodation in Wigwams and Tipis.

During school holidays the Swan Centre for Leisure runs a number of kids clubs in the 'Get active holiday activities programme', and the swimming pool extends it's opening times for the general public. For little ones there is also a soft play in the adventure play area and a shallow pool for non-swimmers in the swimming pool. The pool and leisure centre is open all year, please check the website for opening times and classes.

Paxton House has a number of family fun activities from Easter until November. In the wider Borders area, Gunsgreen House - the Smuggler's House - in Eyemouth, also from Easter until October, and there's more fun to be had at Ford and Etal Estates with Heatherslaw Light Railway.

Berwick Speedway takes place at Shielfield Park in Tweedmouth from March until the end of September, on most Saturday evenings. Gates open at 6.30pm with tapes up at 7pm.

The annual Spittal Seaside Festival features all the attractions of a traditional seaside holiday, complete with donkey rides and Punch and Judy Show on the promenade. The weekend’s programme also includes displays, activities and entertainment celebrating Spittal’s seaside story, from the early days of the spa well, to its 20th century heyday as a holiday resort.
