Last year’s L.S Lowry in Berwick & Northumberland is nominated for two awards at the Journal Culture Awards 2014

Berwick Visual Arts ‘L.S Lowry in Berwick & Northumberland’ exhibition, held at The Granary Gallery last year has been nominated for two awards at the Journal Culture Awards for 2014.

The awards recognise and reward the best cultural achievements in the North-East region over the last year and the exhibition has been nominated in two categories for Best Event in Northumberland and Best Arts and Business Sponsorship with Simpson’s Malt who sponsored the exhibition.

James Lowther, Head of Visual Art, Berwick Visual Arts said ‘We are delighted that our  Lowry exhibition has been nominated for two Culture Awards, it’s wonderful that all the work but in the many people and partner organisations to make the exhibition happen has been recognised, including the generous support from Simpson’s Malt

Richard Simpson, Vice-Chair of Simpsons Malt said ‘Simpsons Malt is thrilled that this incredible exhibition, which was so warmly welcomed by residents and visitors to Berwick-upon-Tweed, has been shortlisted for the award.  We were thrilled to be involved and we wish the organisers every success on awards night.’

‘L.S Lowry in Berwick & Northumberland’ was Berwick Visual Arts most popular exhibition to date with over 17,000 people visiting the exhibition between June and September 2014. The exhibition brought together for the first time many of Lowry’s original works of Berwick-upon-Tweed including works of The Market Place, Spittal Sands and a Football Match on the 'Stanks' and included loans from The Lowry Collection, Salford; Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens, The Lowry Estate and private collections.

The winners of the Journal Culture Awards will be announced at a ceremony at Sunderland Minster on Tuesday 30 June.
