Beginning the Autumn Festivals season, this weekend sees the return of Berwick Food & Beer Festival (Friday 31st August-Sunday 2nd September 2018). The Grand Opening evening and ceilidh take place on Friday from 5pm with Meet the Brewers, Ceilidh with Heads on the Block and live music from Iain Petrie. The Food & Beer Festival then continues over Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd September; with over 80 food stalls, real ales, artisan brewers, ciders, wines, cocktails and gin, Kids Fun Kitchen, food trucks, live music, cookery demos and foodie films. Berwick Heritage Open Days (Friday 14th-Sunday 16th September 2018). ‘Heritage Open Days’ is England's largest festival of history and culture. Every year in September, places across the country throw open their doors to celebrate their heritage, community and history. It’s your chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – and it’s all FREE. The 14th Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival (Thursday 20th–Sunday 23rd September 2018) is a landmark event bringing together films, guest artists and audiences from around the world to Berwick-upon-Tweed. BFMAF 2018 will present films, exhibitions, live performances, talks and events that you won’t see anywhere else. A highlight in 2018 is the new film Enceindre, a major new commission and first collaboration between Turner-prize nominated artist-filmmaker Luke Fowler and sound recordist Chris Watson. Enceindre is a study in film and sound of two 16th century fortified cities: Berwick in the North East of England and Pamplona in the Navarre region of the North of Spain. Berwick Literary Festival (Thursday 18 – Sunday 21 October) is celebrating its fifth anniversary, proudly showcasing local, national and international contributors who will bring words to life in a feast of talks, workshops, discussions and events. Creative writing and fiction are once again at the heart of Berwick Literary Festival. Award-winning playwright Torben Betts, and children’s author Liz Flanagan are among the exciting contributors.
