Where to go

River Tweed by Tim Berrall

Whether you are visiting Berwick for a day trip and are looking for attractions in walking distance, or if you have a few days holiday in which to explore the wider area, we have all the information you need in planning your visit.

In town we have excellent accessible walks for all on the Elizabethan town walls and along the River Tweed to the medieval castle ruins. The Lowry Trail is a fantastic way to explore the town further, following in L.S. Lowry’s footsteps and viewing the town through the artist’s eyes.

With indoor attractions in the Barracks museums and the art exhibitions at the Granary and Gymnasium galleries, along with a calendar of theatre, cinema and music events at the Maltings, any wet-weather days will not dampen Berwick’s appeal. Attractions have seasonal opening hours, so please check the individual attraction pages for details.

We also have family activities in and around town, with swimming pools, soft play, tennis courts, parks, beaches, a pottery and craft activity centre to entertain the little ones.

Check out our events pages for festivals and other events which may coincide with your stay.

With the new Berwick Hoppa Bus it is now easier than ever to get around town. From Berwick Holiday Park to Tweedmouth West End, the service operates on a 'hail and ride' basis allowing visitors to hop on and off wherever it is safe to do so.

In easy travelling distance, and on one of our bus routes, you can visit towns and villages on the Northumberland coast and inland towards the hills, as well as over the Border into Scotland.

The bus service from Berwick to Holy Island runs all year round, but with specific days and times worked out around the tide times. Visit Border Buses website for timetable information.
