The next Sound & Vision film night will be on Sunday 12^th Feb, at 7pm. We’ll be watching ‘The Taking of Pelham 123’, from 1974 (note – definitely not the terrible 2009 remake).

If you’ve not seen this film before, 4 men take a New York subway car (with all its’ passengers) hostage, and demand a ransom from the city. This is what I would call a classic 70’s heist movie, with an exasperated police chief, useless politicians, and a world-weary everyman (Walther Matthau) who has to try and sort it all out. The tension is skillfully ramped up throughout the film, with great performances from Robert Shaw as the lead hijacker, and especially Matthau as a Transit Police lieutenant. Great score, too.
