Take yourself on a walk around Spittal and find out about some of the properties and buildings there both past and present. New for this year, look out for the posters on Astounding Inventions around the village and also the new Alleyway plaques.

Spittal was once a seaside resort but also a place with an industrial past. Walk round and look for posters in windows, on a gate or lamp post with anecdotal and hearsay information from local residents, newspapers of the time, censuses and directory with extra historical facts thrown in for good measure. Lots of information has been collected already and published in three volumes but there are still a few questions. Can you be the one to answer them or can you provide us with more information? Talk to the researchers and pick up a walk leaflet from the St Paul’s Church Information Point in Main Street, Spittal (Fri–Sun, 12:00–16:00) as well as leaflets on Edible Spittal and Astounding Inventions themed walks, and at Karmic Cakery in North Greenwich Road, (Thurs–Sat, 11:00–16:00).

You can begin the walk anywhere in Spittal , however, a good starting point is outside St Paul’s Church.
