Art in the Castle is an annual event, held at beautiful Ayton Castle at Ayton Village in Berwickshire. This year, our event runs over three days of Bank Holiday weekend on August 24-26, 2024, 10.30 am-4 pm.
The castle is still a private home and rarely opens its doors to the public, so this is a rare opportunity to visit and also see beautiful artwork created by artists and makers from Northumberland and the Scottish Borders. The artwork is shown in the castle’s main public spaces, including its stunning entrance hall with listed hand-painted plaster walls, and the gorgeous ballroom and dining rooms which have views across the surrounding land. The owner’s private contemporary art collection will also be on show, so this is a treat in itself.
Twenty artists will be taking part this year, which is our third event there. We’ll be showcasing everything from original art, prints, ceramics, textiles, millinery and much more. The castle’s little café will be open, and the owners will be running their train for rides through the stunning grounds. Entry to the exhibition is free. Tickets for the train can be obtained at the station which is signposted off Eyemouth Road (between Ayton Village and the castle’s trades’ entrance). There is limited parking on the road in front of the castle, but there is plenty of parking in Ayton Village, which is just a short walk through the castle’s main turreted entrance gate and through the grounds. If you’re taking the train, cars can be parked at the station. Find out more about the event via our website www.thetinshed.co.uk
