Helen Leder is BACK with a bang in 2024 and with her first ever memoir that’s sure to be alarmingly honest and filled with legendary funny stories from the outset.
You can expect Helen to speak about her Memoir and Comedy Women In Print Book Prize, and live storytelling full of laugh out loud moments.
“I invite you to imagine a time when women didn’t do comedy unless they were fat, or an impressionist, or enabled by a man. Be happy you weren’t around in the ’80s. But I was. I need to write this.”
From the iconic Absolutely Fabulous, Bottom, French and Saunders, and Girls on Top; it’s difficult to think of a comedy show that Helen wasn’t a part of.
So, what was it like to be one of a handful of women at the heart of the right-on alternative comedy scene in the 1980s? Piece of cake? Bit of a laugh? Well, yes, and no.
This event is presented by Berwick Literary Festival and The Maltings and also includes Q&A and post-show book signing.
“Under her costume of the madcap and the daft, there ticks a very, very smart brain and there beats a most warm and kindly heart. It’s a wonderful read.”
Stephen Fry
“Irrepressibly, unrepentantly funny.”
