Join BCA and Alison Mountain, in collaboration with the Berwick Literary Festival
for a workshop that will look at the purpose of the sketchbook, how they work and how they can support and enrich creative thought for everyone.

Where: The Straw Yard, Berwick Barracks, Berwick
Date: Tuesday, 8 October
Time: 10am–1pm
Facilitator: Alison Mountain
Who: this workshop is for all adults 18+

Sketchbooks are soul-informed, risky things that embody inventive and creative thinking, and deserve value and respect.

Do you think of a sketchbook as predominantly a tool for a visual artist?
Have you ever thought about making or using one yourself?
Have you wondered what it might look like or what could be in it?
Maybe you already have one but are uncertain, even fearful, about what it should be or how it ought to look?

This workshop will capture the spirit in which sketchbooks are kept, offer a number of practical strategies for their implementation, and look at the sketchbook in its broadest sense: its purpose, how it works, and how it can support and enrich creative thought for everyone who uses it. Participants will make a simple sketchbook, using prompts from sketchbook expert Alison Mountain to stimulate ideas and help overcome any fears about how and where to start.
