Northern Soul Kitchen – A Community Café with Sustainability at Its Heart

Northern Soul Kitchen is a welcoming community café that champions sustainability and inclusivity. Originally founded to tackle avoidable food waste, the café has grown into a vibrant space where everyone can feel at home, connect, and even get involved.

Most of the team at Northern Soul Kitchen are volunteers, ranging in age from 13 to 80 years old. While the café began by using donated surplus food, it now focuses on incorporating locally sourced produce and products into its menus. By prioritizing local ingredients, Northern Soul Kitchen helps reduce food miles, positively impacting both the environment and the local economy.

The café operates on a Pay What You Can model from Thursday to Saturday, making its food accessible to everyone. Suggested prices are also available for those who prefer guidance. On Sundays, the café serves an all-day brunch with a priced menu that features an ever-changing selection of vegan and vegetarian breakfasts, loaded toasts, sweet brunch dishes, and high-welfare organic meats sourced from Peelham Farm. Northern Soul Kitchen exclusively uses Pilgrims Coffee, chosen for its sustainability practices that align perfectly with the café’s ethos.
